Sage sr., and one of the oldest and most highly respected residents of Canisteo, died Friday night after a long illness from hardening of the arteries and other ailments, at her home on Col. Bill's Creek. For many years she had been one of the most prominent and respected women of Canisteo. She was one of the founders of the Spring Brook church and was a life long worker and supporter of church and religious work. She leaves a long and bright record for Christian service and devoted family life.
She was born in Andover and moved to South Canisteo with her parents when 5 years old. She married Mr. Sage in September 1870. He passed away 3 years ago. She was one of 10 children, all of whom have now passed away. She was mother of 7 children, 4 of whom are living: Mrs. Fred Newton of Hornell, Mrs. Wm. S. Skillman of South Canisteo, Mrs. Bertha Ward of Hornell and LaVerne Sage of South Canisteo. She leaves the following grandchildren:
Mrs. K.E. Comfort of this village; Mrs. G.A. Benson of Hornell, Miss Fanetta Skillman of this village; A.W. Sage of this village, LaVerne A. Newton of Buffalo, Lawrence A. Ward of Rochester, Clarence E. Skillman of this village and Sylvester W. Skillman of this village.
Funeral services were held from the late home Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The Rev. Calvin DeGraw, pastor of South Canisteo Methodist Protestant church will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside cemetery, Canisteo.
