Samuel Austin, Prominent Farmer, in Bath Hospital With Fractured Skull
KANONA, Feb. 28.—Samuel Austin, a prominent farmer of this vicinity is at the Bath hospital with a fractured skull as the result of a fall that he sustained Monday while fishing on Lake Waneta. With him when he fell were his son, Earl and George Birdsall of this village. Mr. Austin, after falling complained of a severe pain in his head but was able to come home. In a few hours, however he became unconscious, and the ambulance was summoned, and he was taken to the Bath hospital where an examination revealed a serious fracture of the skull. Mr. Austin remains unconscious, and his recovery is considered doubtful.

- KANONA FARMER DIES OF FRACTURED SKULL SUFFERED IN A FALL
Samuel Austin, Who Was Injured In Fall on Ice at Lake Waneta Succumbs During Night
Samuel Austin, prominent farmer in the vicinity of Bath, died last night in the Bath Hospital from a fractured skull received Monday when he fell on the ice at Lake Waneta where he went fishing. He was 51 years old and had lived all of his life in that vicinity, being well known. Mr. Austin complained of a severe pain in the head following the fall but was able to go home. A short time later he lapsed into unconsciousness and was rushed to the hospital where the fracture was discovered. Besides his widow, he is survived by three sons. Earl. Claude and LaVerne; sister, Mrs. Jennie Shautt; two brothers, Harry Austin and Will Austin of Watkins. The funeral will be held at the family home Friday.

- Avoca Man Fractures Skull: Injury Proves Fatal
AVOCA, March 1—Samuel R. Austin. 51. Kanona farm died yesterday from injuries suffered Monday at Lake Waneta, near Wayne. Fishing through the ice, Austin slipped and fell, striking on the back of his head. Apparently suffering no ill effects, he continued fishing until night. Arriving home, he became ill and gradually lapsed into unconsciousness. He was taken to the Bath Hospital where it was found his skull had been fractured. An operation was performed at the hospital Tuesday night. Born at Campbell on December 10, 1876, a son of Charles and Sarah Austin, he had passed his life farming in this vicinity.
