Notes - Benjamin fought in King Philip's War, stationed at the Springfield Garrison, and married Hannah Merrick about 2 months after his tour was up. Since they ended up in Springfield, some distance from Ipswich, one could infer that they met when he was away on military duty-- but she was from Newbury, also in Essex County, and that's where they were married in 1676. He must've seen an opportunity for westward migration, returned to marry and gather up his belongings, and settle on more undeveloped ground. He took the Freeman oath in Springfield in 1678 and was given a land grant in 1684.
