An Epidemic at Somerset Center--Mrs. Dr. Root and Daughter Die (News Article) Date: 1892-02-09; Paper: Jackson Citizen The Fatal La Grippe An epidemic at Somerset Center- Mrs. Dr.Root and daughter die within two hours of each other. Dr.Z.W. Waldron returned Tuesday from Somerset Center, where he was called to attend Dr. Root, who was dangerously ill with La Grippe. Mr.Root's wife died of the disease at 5 o'clock Friday morning and his daughter two hours later.They were buried Saturday morning, and Dr. Root came down with the disease himself. His condition this morning was much better and he will be about again in a few days. The grippe has been very severe in this locality, almost a epidemic, and a number of others have succumbed to the disease. The people are very much frightened from the malady, as its results have been so serious there. Nearly everyone in the village is suffering more or less from its effects.
