    • 1st NY Dragoons. Franklin (Franklyn) Dieter was a son of John George and Maria Schlegel Dieter of Livingston Co, NY.
      Franklin enrolled as a private Oct. 16, 1862 at Klecknersville, Moore Twp, PA., in Co. I, 174 Regt. Pa. Vol. Inf. He was discharged at Philadelphia, Pa. Aug. 5, 1863. He had been reported sick in U.S. Gen. Hosp. Newbern, N.C. Dec 1862. Late in the war he enrolled again for service in Co. F, 28 Regt. Pa. Vol. Inf., on Mar. 2, 1865, at Easton, Pa. Discharged June 19, 1865.
      Franklin married 1st to Ada Jane Smith. Franklin and Ada Jane had 10 children: Hattie B, Ada Jane, Martin M, Albert Franklyn, Minerva Elizabeth, George Washington, Scott, Joseph, Anna and Lucina. Ada Jane died in childbirth with the birth of Lucina who was born March 15, 1888. Ada Jane was buried West Sparta Cemetery, Livingston Co., NY. Ada Jane was the daughter of Lambert and Lucy Morse Smith.
      After Ada Jane died Franklin married 2nd sometime in 1892 to Phoebe Fredericks, b. in Ireland and they had one child: Eliza Dieter b. Oct 28, 1892, Grove, Allegany Co, NY.
      Franklin married for the third time April 1, 1899 in Sparta, to Susan Catherine Driesbach who died in 1930. She was the daughter of Elias and Susannah Driesbach.--S.Jones.
