Born on Sept. 24, 1927, in Floreffe, Pa., he was a son of Roy C. and Kathryn Franzen Sherwood. He was a lifelong area resident. He was a veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marines and the U.S. Navy during World War II. Early in his career he owned and operated the Friendship Hotel. He later went on to work for Acme Electric in Cuba for many years and retired from HYSOL in Olean. Bob was a communicant of Our Lady of the Angels Roman Catholic Church in Cuba and a former communicant of the former Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Friendship. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 1168 in Friendship, was a past volunteer firefighter for Friendship and enjoyed hunting. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis A. Gray Sherwood, whom he married June 21, 1948; his four daughters, Sandra (James) Schwab of South Carolina, Deborah (Randall) Crane of Friendship, Kathryn (Silas) Smith of Angelica and Roberta (Joseph) Smith of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.; 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; and his siblings, Roy Sherwood and Patricia Reno. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Friendship.
