- COHOCTON - Mary E. Saxton, 87, of 6 N. Dansville St., passed away Saturday morning (June 2, 2007) at the Vincent House Comfort Care Healthcare Facility in Wayland.
Mary was born March 27, 1920, in Dansville, the daughter of Charles and Emma (Lander) Gotschall. She grew up in South Dansville, however the majority of her life she lived in the Cohocton area. On Aug. 31, 1940, Mary and Edwin Saxton Jr. were married in Dansville. Together they have celebrated more than 46 years of marriage. For several years, Mary was a cook at Cohocton School, however most of her work came at home. As the wife of a farmer, she was a homemaker that held many jobs in that one. She took great pride in her home as evidenced by how meticulous she was. Mary has been a member of the Zion Lutheran Church for many, many years and also enjoyed time in the Cohocton Republicans Club, the Ladies Aid, the Zion Loyal Group, and as a member of the Coachmen's Camper Club. Mary enjoyed crocheting, camping and baking. Baking her famous chocolate chip cookies that were present at every family get together will be dearly missed by her family.
Mary was predeceased in life by her sisters, Maude Emo and Bertha Derrenbacher.
She is survived by her husband, Edwin Saxton Jr., of Cohocton; her children, Charles (Mary Etta) Saxton, of Cohocton, Stanley (Patti) Saxton, of Paoli, Ind., and Joyce (Brian) Wheaton, of Cohocton; her grandchildren, Sarah (Michael) Grammatico, of Batavia, Julie Martin, of Wayland, Stephen (Rhonda) Saxton, of Arkport, Chris (Michelle) Apple, of Salem, Ind., Carla Sue (Ian) McSpadden, of Colmer Manor, Md., Matthew (Elizabeth) Wheaton, of Northfield, Vt., and Ashlee Wheaton, of Cohocton; her great-grandchildren, Christopher, Tommy and Lucas Grammatico, Emily and Cole Saxton and Hannah Fairbrother; her brother-in-law, Austin (Laura) Saxton; along with several nieces and nephews.
Mary's family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 W. Naples St., Wayland. Her funeral services will take place 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment and committal prayers will take place immediately following at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Rev. Huth, from the Zion Lutheran Church, will officiate.
