Grandson of Sir John de Sutton of Dudley and Constance Blount, Sir John Berkeley and Katherine Betteshorne. Husband of Joyce Tiptoft, the youngest daughter of Sir John Tiptoft and Joyce Cherleton. They had two sons and one daughter: Sir Edward Lord Dudley, John, and Joyce, the wife of Sir Edward Benstead. Secondly, he was the second husband of Maud Clifford, daughter of Lord Thomas Clifford and Joan Dacre, widow of Sir John Harington, slain at the Battle of Wakefield in 1460. Sir Edmund accompanied his brother-in-law, John Tiptoft, to Ireland in 1467, becoming his deputy. Sir Edmund also attended the coronation of King Richard III in 1483, and died between 06 July 1483 and 30 Sept 1487.
