  Notes	Killed by the Fumes of Gas John Harter, and his wife, of Almond, N.Y., were overcome by escaping natural gas Sunday morning and both are dead. the family lived in a house and had a boarder by the name of Kay Allen, who also was overcome but who was found in time to save his life. Mr. Harter was found lying on a sofa, fully dressed, with his feet on the floor and it was evident he had been dead some time as he was stiff. Mrs. Harter was on the bed unconscious and she never recovered but died Monday night. They were found by a near neighbor who noticed the light still burning, and as it was late in the morning he opened the door and walked in, and finding them as described, he gave an alarm. Mr. Harter was at one time a resident of this village but some time ago he moved away and located in Almond village. He was married four times and his last wife was a very fine woman. He had at one time fifteen children but only eleven are living, Viz; Fred Harter of Sparta, M.C. Harter, John Harter and Mrs. Will Thompson of this village. Clarence Harter and Mrs. Combs of Michigan, Mrs. Loveland of Loon Lake. Edward Harter of Hornell, William and George Harter and Mrs. Treat of Almond. Mr. Harter was 79 years old and a veteran soldier of the Civil war, his service being in Co. K, 188th N.Y.V. for one year. He was a member of Seth N. Hedges Post of this village. The funeral of Mrs. Harter was held yesterday at Almond and she was buried there. Mr. Harter's funeral will be held this afternoon at two o'clock from the home of his daughter Mrs. Thompson on VanCampen street, Rev. C.E. Odell to officiate, and he will be buried by members of the Post in Greenmount Cemetery. (Dansville Express, Dansville, Livingston County, New York, Thursday, Oct. 13, 1910)
