- Gilbert Barbier dit La Minime was the son of Pierre Barbier and Claudia Vison. He was a master carpenter and came to the Nouvelle France colony in 1642. He was one of the first Montreal pioneers He married Marie Catherine De La Vaux on November 14, 1650 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada . he was a warden of the Notre Dame de Montreal church in 1657. Later He commanded the 6 th squad of the volunteer militia fighting off Iroquois attacks and protecting the colony of Ville Marie.
