Mrs. William H. Erkenbrack, who went to Republic, Kansas last Friday to visit the home of her son, J. S., was stricken with paralysis while there and died Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock.
Mary A. Cole was born October 2, 1831 in Johnstown, New York where she grew to womanhood. She was married there to William H. Erkenbrack on October 18, 1849 and in 1870 they came to Villisca where they have made their home since that time.
To them were born seven children, two of whom are deceased. Those living are Joseph, of Washington, Mrs. Margaret E. Penwell, Mrs. Delia Higgins, and Mrs. Jesse McCoy of Villisca, James S. of Republic, Kansas, and Mrs. Minnie Freelin of Omaha.
The body of Mrs. Erkenbrack arrived in Villisca Tuesday evening and the funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Methodist Church with Rev. E. S. Menoher in charge of the service. Burial was in the Vilscas Cemetery. Those who were here from a distance to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Freelin and their son Fred of Omaha, Joe Erkenbrack of Repubic, Kansas and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Karnes of Red Oak, Mrs. Fred Haxthansen and daughter, Mrs. John Sullivan of Omaha, Mrs. J. C. Elrick of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Shum of Clarinda, Will Penwell of New Market, and Glee McCoy of Brooks.
Mrs. Erkenbrack leaves 30 grandchildren, 64 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
