Plot: HamsherNotes - Dansville, Oct. 30—Jonas Hamsher died last night at his home In Gibson Street, after a short illness. He was 93 years old October 1st, having been born in Sparta in 1831. He always lived in this vicinity and was a farmer for many years. His father, Bernard Hamsher, came to Sparta from Pennsylvania over a century ago. He served two whole years in the Civil War in Company D 147th N. Y. V. losing a finger at the battle of the Wilderness. Mr. Hamsher married Cornelia Woodruff, who died a number of years ago. Of the four children born to them three survive. Mrs. Fred LeRouette of Conesus, Glenn Hamsher of Dansville, Herbert Hamsher of Rochester. He was one of the brightest and sturdiest men of his age in this section and was loved by everyone. His grandfather fought in the War of the Revolution, his father in the war of 1812, he fought in the Civil War and his son, the late Gates Hamsher was a soldier in the World War. The funeral arrangements are not yet completed. He was a member of the local Seth W. Hedges Post G. A. R.
