  Notes	Joseph Lockwood is said to have moved from Stamford to Pound Ridge around 1743. Stamford deeds support his departure at about this time, indicating that he first relocated to North Castle, where his brothers Reuben and James were also residing. Records from Historical Records of North Castle (R) include: Book B:8 – Town Meeting, April 3, 1744 - “Joseph Lockwood, prizer of damages and fence viewer for the East Patent for the year ensuing.” Book B:10 – Town Meeting, April 1, 1746 - “Joseph Lockwood, assessor for the year ensuing for the East Middle Patent.” (Joseph’s brother Reuben appears in these records beginning in 1739.) From Westchester County Land Records: H:62 – December 10, 1745 (recorded August 24, 1768) Joseph and Reuben Lockwood, both of North Castle, along with others, transferred rights in the “East Patent”—originally granted in 1701 to Caleb Heathcote, Lemaster Simbs, and Robert Waters—to James De Lancey and Lewis Johnstone. Joseph Lockwood signed by mark; Reuben signed his name. No formal death record has been found for Joseph⁴ Lockwood other than that noted in the journal of his grandson, Ezra. However, on February 15, 1760, at a church society meeting—moderated by Reuben Lockwood, with Israel Lockwood (both brothers of Joseph) serving on the building committee—it was decided to erect a new meeting house on the “hill betwixt Joseph Lockwood’s house and Ebenezer Lockwood’s barn.” These two Lockwoods were almost certainly Joseph’s sons, indicating that Joseph’s land had passed to them by that date (N-2:570). The surviving children of Joseph Lockwood are identified in Stamford deed L:101, dated March 28, 1788. In this deed: Ebenezer Lockwood of Pound Ridge Ebenezer and Rachel Wood of Salem, New York David and Mercy Dan of Bedford, New York Nathaniel and Elizabeth Waring of the Manor of Philipsborough, New York -acted as grantors to Joseph Lockwood of Pound Ridge. The deed references land originally purchased by “our father Joseph Lockwood” in 1756.
