  Notes	John Lockwood was appointed surveyor of highways at Stamford on December 2, 1742, and again on December 18, 1744 (S-2:521, 526). On July 23, 1776 (Stamford Deed L:296), John Lockwood of Stamford conveyed to “my son Reuben Lockwood of Stamford” four acres of land at a place called “ye Dead Plains,” bounded by “my own land,” “my son John’s land,” and land of Joseph Ambler. Witnesses were Abraham Davenport and John Lockwood, Jr. Numerous additional Stamford deeds exist for this John Lockwood. John Lockwood executed his will on July 23, 1776; it was probated September 3, 1776. He named the following children: Sarah Scofield, Abigail Lounsbury, John Lockwood (and his wife), Reuben Lockwood He appointed his sons John and Reuben as executors. Witnesses to the will were Abraham Scofield, Mary Lockwood, and Rachel Lockwood. An inventory of the estate was taken on January 15, 1777, and filed November 3, 1778, by Reuben Lockwood, administrator (P-4:311–312, 373–374). On May 4, 1780, the estate was distributed to the heirs of his son John (then deceased), with the remainder distributed to Reuben, son of the decedent (P-6:31).
