- Col. Edmund Lockwood married Mary Ann Cash Russell, the widow of Dr. Robert Russell and daughter of David Isaac Cash and Sally M. Gore, on 13 Mar 1816 in Ulster, Pennsylvania. Edmund and Mary Ann had eight children - Edmund L., Abigail Carassa, Richard Caton, Samuel Simons, Mary Ann, Phebe Maria, Charles Huston and Frances. Of these children only two did not survive - Charles Huston died at age three and Frances died at age two. Edmund's last child, Frances, was born four months after Edmund died.
The following is from the History of Bradford County, PA by David Craft 1770-1878 published in 1878: Edmund Lockwood was born at Watertown, CT, November 24, 1769. He there married Nancy Judson, by whom he had two children,--Caroline, who married Samuel Simons, and Charles J., who died unmarried. May 19, 1797, he was commissioned Captain in the 8th Regiment of militia, by Governor Oliver Wolcott. May 28, 1802, he was promoted to the rank of Major by Governor Jno. Trumbull. May 10, 1810, he received his commission as Colonel of the same regiment from Governor John Treadwell.
About this time he removed to Baltimore, Maryland, and entered the service of Charles Carroll. He was soon after appointed by his agent for the sale of the Carroll lands in Bradford and adjoining counties, and removed to Smithfield, in that county. He soon formed the acquaintance of Anna, widow of Dr. Russell, whom he married. They took up their residence in Old Sheshequin, in a house built by her father. After this, the homestead now owned and occupied by Mrs. A. C. Jones was erected, where Col. Lockwood died, January 16, 1834, aged sixty-three years.
