- W.E. Macurda Is Buried Today
Private funeral services were held at Littleton today for William E. Macurda, retired coal dealer and a former resident of this city, who died Thursday night in the home of his daughter, Mrs. George M. Ross of Littleton, at the age of 78 years. Burial was in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Marshfield.
Mr. Macurda was the son of William A. Macurda who at one time conducted a drug store in the old Fitchburg Hotel building in partnership with Edward A. Sawyer.
A native of Clinton, Mr. Macurda begin his business career with the Garfield & Proctor Coal Co., now the Union Coal Co. of this city, and later associated with the same firm in Boston. He remained active in the coal business until three years ago when he retired as head of the Suburban Coal Co. of Somerville.
Mr. Macurda was a trustee of the New England Baptist Hospital, the New England Baptist Home, and the Andover Newton Theological school. He was also honorary chairman of the board of trustees of the Boston Baptist Social Union.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Georgianna (Hayward) Macurda; one son, Hayward of Concord, N.H.; a brother, Arthur A. Macurda head of the Cumnock School for Girls at Los Angeles, Calif., and five grandchildren.
