Name Lloyd Roscoe Burdett Birth 27 Aug 1888 Fremont, Steuben Co., New York, USA Gender Male Military Service 7 Jun 1918 New York Guard Service
Co. K, 4th Inf NYG
Honorable Discharge 3/20/1920Death 13 May 1965 Hornell, Steuben Co., New York, USA Burial Rural Cemetery, Hornellsville, Steuben Co., New York, USA Notes - A 1955 Hornell Tribune newspaper with Lloyd Burdett spoke about his 1936 city clerk job as he was on the cusp of becoming Hornell mayor. His journals talk about that time, Lloyd only served about a year as Mayor, mostly due to health issues he battled frequently towards the latter end of his life. He spent a chunk of that term in and out of the hospital, so much so it became a familiar place where he knew many people.
Lloyd and Sylvia lived at 45 Fulton St. in Hornell and he had a radio service repair there - there was one sign in front of their house and another identical one around the back; Lloyd would often get customers just knocking at his back door. He writes in his journals about starting radio service as a hobby and learning more from others (including his cousin Murray Burdett).
Lloyd was quite handy in his day, like many Burdett's. He seemed to have a knack for multiple crafts like carpentry, something he said his father, George, and grandfather, Paul were good at as well (in addition to Paul's interests in inventing).

This photo period is Lloyd's late teens, which was when he and his brother Fred would raise and show chickens much like the 4-H groups of State Fairs today. Lloyd also became very adept at working/fixing the incubators, a combo that kept him employed with Empire Poultry of Hornell for a bit. Later on would come taxi driver, auto assembly line worker, courier, ice breaker, politician, and work connections within Hornell's Elmhurst Dairy and Russ Davis Ford I have yet to fully understand.Lloyd R Burdett - United Way Campaign
