- Nicholas, of was son of Alexander, who settled in Kittery,Maine and
returned to old England about 1644. Nicholas was a merchant and
Captain of the ship "George", which sailed from Bristol,England Sept
28, and arrived at Boston 07 Nov 1635. On 2 April 1641, Nicholas
bought from James Treworgy, for 1500L, all his lands, house, fish,
fishing coast,,etc., in New England. He resided some time at
Strawberry Bank and elsewhere in the Piscataqua region, where his
father, was early an agent of Sir Ferdinando Gorges(founder of of
Colony of Maine). Nicholas sold Strawberry Bank property and bought a
house and land in Boston 22 March 1645. He removed to Charlestown and
bought lands ther 8 August 1648. In his will of 21 Jan 1662, he gave
his wife "the house in which Mr. Roswell lives", "which was, of
course, one of the best in that town." He was town clerk of
Charlestown in 1662 and died while in office. His eldest son
Nicholas Jr. was a Major, but was dismissed from that office in July
1669 by the County Court, for being a Quaker. His nearer neighbors
continued to trust his goodness and elected him Representive to the
General Court in 1696.
