- On 20th of March 1630, a group of men and woman, including Geroge and
his wife Abigail Dyer, set sail from Plymouth,England, in the good
ship, the "Mary and John." The ship arrived in Boston Bay two weeks
before the Governor Winthrop's Fleet and in June selected Savin Hill
as the site for their settlement. At the time it was known as
Mattapanock but they named it Dorchester, probably from their native
county of Dorchester,England as most were from there. George was on
Jury duty as early as September, 1630; and became a freeman in 1631.
George became Constable in 1632 in Dorchester and was a grantee of
Dorchester lands in April, 1633. He and his wife, Abigail, signed the
church covenant anew in 1636. He died in Dorchester in 1672 at the
age of 93 years.
