  	John was described as five feet, ten inches tall, with black hair and gray eyes, and a roman nose. John Haynes served as an Enlisted soldier with the North Carolina Troops. From the Spring of 1776, for six weeks in Captain Moses' Company; for six weeks in Captain Hugh Hall's Company, Colonel George Davidson's Regiment; for two weeks in Captain David Ramsey's Company; from November, for three months in Captain William Bell's Company, for six weeks in Captain John Dickey's Company, Colonel Locke's Regiment, and was in the battle of Ramsour's Mill; for three months in Captain Joseph Dixon's Company, Colonel Davy's Regiment, and was in several skirmishes and an engagement at Polk's Hill. John and his family moved to Tennessee in 1806, near Caney Springs, and later to Cornersville, Giles county, then Marshall County, Tennessee, 1807. There is a record of the marriage of John Haynes and Margaret Andrew, in North and South Carolina Marriage Records, by William M. Clemens, 1981.
