    Notes
    • MRS. RILEY ALLEN DIED THIS MORNING NOT UNEXPECTEDLY
Had Been Prominent in the Affairs of the Order of the Eastern Star
Mrs. Melvina Allen, wife of Riley Allen, a prominent oil producer in the Bolivia field, died this morning at 1:10 o'clock at her home on West State street. Mrs. Allen had been prominent in the affairs of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was Most Worthy Past Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter of the State of New York. She was also active in the Order of the Amaranth and the local branch of that organization was originally named in her honor Queen Melvina Court. Mrs. Allen's ill health had been of long standing and the end was not unexpected. The attending physician certified to the cause of death as being chronic nephritis. For 20 years Mrs. Allen had made her home in this city, coming here from Allentown, N. Y., and during that period had endeared herself to a wide circle of friends. Her interest in the affairs of the Order of the Eastern Star and her frequent attendance at conventions of that organization had given her an exceptionally large acquaintance among the neighboring chapters. Besides her husband, she is survived by the following sons and daughters, Mrs. A. E. Ewing, Mrs. D. D. Conable, Mrs. W. C. Foss, of Olean, Mrs. Charles Boyd, Orville, Allen, Lloyd Allen and Claud Allen of Allentown; and by fifteen grandchildren. Two brothers, Loren Prince of Shinglehouse and Alfred Prince of Sheridan, Wyoming, also survive her. The Rev. Dr. James W. Ashton will conduct a prayer service at the home on West State street at 1:30 Thursday afternoon, but the funeral service and interment will take place at her former home in Allentown, N. Y., on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
